How to Use Gmail Annotations for Promotions in Chamaileon (Step-by-Step Guide)

Gmail annotations allow you to highlight your promotional emails in Gmail's Promotions tab effectively. By adding key elements such as logos, promo codes, expiration dates, and more, you can make your email stand out, increasing the chances of it being opened. In this article, we'll show you how to set up Gmail annotations using Chamaileon, making your promotions more impactful.

What Are Gmail Annotations?

Gmail annotations are a feature that allows you to enrich your promotional emails in the Gmail Promotions tab. According to Google, annotations let you include images like your logo, promo codes, descriptions, and expiration dates directly in the email preview. This helps capture your recipient's attention and provides them with essential information at a glance.

How to Set Up Gmail Annotations in Chamaileon

Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to adding Gmail annotations to your promotional emails using Chamaileon:

  1. Access the Email Properties:

    • In your Chamaileon dashboard, hover over the email card for the email you want to annotate.

    • Click on the three-dot menu at the bottom of the email card.

    • Select "Email Settings" from the menu.

      • Alternatively, you can access this when you are in an Export or Sync workflow.

  2. Enable Gmail Promotions:

    • In the "Email Properties" menu, look for the Gmail Promotions feature.

    • Toggle the feature on to start customizing your Gmail annotation settings.

  3. Customize Your Promotion:

    • Now you can set up key elements of your promotional email:

      • Sender Name: Add a sender name for preview purposes only.

      • Subject Line: Define the subject line that will appear in the email preview.

      • Logo: Click on the image icon to upload and add your logo.

      • Description: Provide a brief description of your promotion.

      • Promo Image: Add an image that highlights your promotion or product.

      • Start and End Date: Set the duration of your promotion to help Gmail determine when to highlight your email in the Promotions tab. Emails have a higher chance of being displayed prominently during the last three days of the promo.

  4. Save Your Changes:

    • Once you’ve filled in all the necessary details, click "Save" to apply the Gmail annotation settings to your email.

Why Use Gmail Annotations?

Using Gmail annotations can significantly boost the visibility of your promotional emails. By featuring your logo, promo codes, and relevant images directly in the inbox, you make it easier for recipients to notice your deals. This can lead to higher open rates and increased engagement with your promotional content.
