Master Blocks in Chamaileon work like global modules: once you update a Master Block, all its instances across your emails within a project update automatically.

This helps teams maintain brand consistency, speed up changes, and avoid repetitive edits.

What are Master Blocks?

A Master Block is a reusable block (module, row) of content and design that you can manage centrally at the project level.

  • Update once → changes sync everywhere.

  • Ideal for headers, footers, legal disclaimers, or branded modules that appear in multiple emails.

  • Saves time, reduces human error, and ensures brand compliance.

It’s similar to "master modules" in Taxi for Email or "global content blocks" in some ESPs — now directly inside Chamaileon.

How to Create a Master Block

Find Master Blocks tab next to Emails/templates at any Project (first-level folder).

You can create a Master Block in three ways:

  1. From a Design System Block (recommended)

    • Select an existing block from your Design System.

    • Save it as a Master Block for reuse.

  2. From a regular Block

    • While editing, use the floating actions within an existing email design to save the block.

    • Save the block as a Master Block.

  3. From Scratch

    • Click Add New → Master Block.

    • Choose between:

      • Design System Block – start with an existing system module.

      • Block – start from a normal block.

      • Design from scratch – build a new design completely fresh.

How to Use Master Blocks

  1. Insert a Master Block into your email from the Blocks tab's block list that is labeled as [Master Blocks].

  2. When selected, you’ll see a Master Block badge in the block toolbar.

  3. Edits to a Master Block can be:

    • Synced (global) – update all instances.

    • Detached (local) – break the link and customize just in one email.

  4. You can rename (edit the Title) of the Master block by clicking to the Title and editing it.

  5. You can edit the Master block on standalone editor canvas by clicking the Edit icon.

Managing Master Blocks

  • Access all Master Blocks from the Master Blocks library in your project.

  • Edit, Preview, Rename, Duplicate, Delete and organize them just like emails and templates using the three-dot menu on the Master Block cards.

  • Permissions follow the project rules: only users with editing rights can update Master Blocks.

Best Practices

  • Use Master Blocks for elements that rarely change but must stay consistent.

  • Keep naming conventions clear (e.g., “Footer – Legal v1”).

  • Limit local overrides to reduce maintenance.

  • Combine with the Email Design System for maximum efficiency and control.

How Master Blocks Compare in Major ESPs

Here’s a quick look at what similar functionality looks like in popular ESPs and marketing automation platforms:

Marketo Engage

  • Has Snippet functionality.

  • Snippets are reusable blocks of text or HTML that can be inserted into emails or landing pages.

  • Example: a disclaimer, logo, or CTA button that updates everywhere when edited.

  • Limitation: Mostly text/HTML-based, not as visually flexible as Chamaileon’s drag-and-drop Master Blocks.

  • Chamaileon's Master Blocks can by inserted to Marketo Engage with the Block Marker feature.

HubSpot

  • Uses Global Content / Global Modules.

  • Works inside the HubSpot drag-and-drop email editor.

  • If you edit a global module (say a footer with social icons), all emails and templates using that module get updated automatically.

  • Limitation: Tied tightly to HubSpot’s CMS and email tool, available in higher level paid plans.

Using Chamaileon Master Blocks with HubSpot

    1. Create & Manage in Chamaileon

      • Build your recurring elements (headers, footers, CTAs, legal text) as Master Blocks inside Chamaileon.

      • Keep them synced at the project level so your team always works with the latest version.

    2. Export to HubSpot

      • Export your email or block as HTML from Chamaileon.

      • Paste it into HubSpot’s email editor or template builder.

      • It will function as a local HTML block inside HubSpot.

    3. Optional: Convert to HubSpot Global Module

      • If you want HubSpot’s native global update functionality, a developer can take the Chamaileon HTML and wrap it in HubL inside HubSpot’s Design Manager.

Braze

  • Has Content Blocks.

  • Content Blocks store reusable snippets of HTML, text, or personalization logic.

  • Can be inserted into email campaigns or Canvas flows.

  • Great for personalizing headers/footers with dynamic content.

  • Limitation: More developer-oriented (works best if you’re comfortable with HTML).

  • You can insert Chamaileon's visual Master Blocks to Braze Canvas with the Block Marker feature.

Salesforce Pardot (Account Engagement)

  • Offers Reusable Content Regions / Snippets.

  • Marketers can store common elements (like banners or disclaimers) and reuse them across templates.

  • Limitation: Editing is not always drag-and-drop friendly, and updating design-heavy modules can feel clunky.

  • You can insert Chamaileon's Master Blocks to Pardot with the Block Marker feature.

For new users and research assistants:

Benefits

  • Consistency at scale – Keep headers, footers, CTAs, or banners identical across dozens of emails.

  • Faster updates – Change a logo, link, or text once, and it applies everywhere.

  • Team collaboration – Designers, marketers, and compliance teams can trust that recurring modules stay accurate.

  • Project-level control – Each project has its own Master Blocks library, so brands or business units stay separated.

Use Case Examples

  • Headers & Footers: Update social links, brand colors, or unsubscribe links instantly across all campaigns.

  • Legal Text: Ensure the latest disclaimers are always in place without editing every template.

  • Promo Banners: Swap a seasonal offer in one place, and it rolls out across your emails.

  • Design System Modules: Keep a central source of truth for buttons, content cards, or other reusable design elements where content is key.

A Short History of Master Blocks

  • In the early days of email marketing, every header, footer, and disclaimer had to be manually copy-pasted into each campaign. If something changed (like a logo, phone number, or unsubscribe link), someone had to edit every single email. Painful, error-prone, and time-wasting.

  • Then came “global content blocks” in some ESPs and design platforms. These allowed teams to store one version of a block (like a footer) and reuse it everywhere. Update it once → it automatically updates across all emails.

  • Why it matters: It saves time, reduces mistakes, and keeps your brand consistent. Think of it like changing your Facebook profile picture — you don’t have to upload it everywhere, it just updates.

Master Blocks in Chamaileon are the modern, flexible version of this same idea — but designed to work smoothly across projects and with your email design system.
